Mentors that Change Lives

Jen Hoffmeyer is a Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) specialist at the Livingston Service Center. As a specialist, Jen has firsthand experience of the profound impact JMG has on Michigan’s youth through guidance, mentorship, and unwavering support. A shining example of the life-changing outcome of this impact is Julianna Awrey. Despite earning an Associate’s degree in healthcare through a five-year high school program before joining JMG, Julianna entered the program feeling disconnected from her peers and uncertain about her future.

With Jen's guidance, Julianna shifted her focus to criminal justice, driven by her newfound passion for advocating for children. Jen helped Julianna gain professional experience through exposure to various employers and job shadowing opportunities, preparing her for a successful career transition and endless possibilities.

After joining JMG, meeting Jen, and seizing every opportunity she could, Julianna graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice in December 2023. She now works for Youth Services in Howell, assisting with community programs such as family support, a youth homeless shelter, and a youth drop-in center. Her role allows her to make a tangible difference every day in the lives of the youth she serves.

Julianna's story highlights the life-changing impact of JMG specialists. Jen's mentorship empowered Julianna to advocate for herself and others, discover her true passion, and push her to exceed her own expectations.
