The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) recently awarded nearly $20 million in grants to four national organizations to expand local work readiness programs and support workforce development activities for out-of-school youth. Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) was awarded $725,000 over three years, through our national affiliate, Jobs for America’s Graduates. The funding will focus on our out of school time services for youth in Southwest Michigan.
Youth disconnection and learning loss hit all-time highs during the pandemic, with an anticipated 6 million or more young people disconnected from education and employment. The DOL grant gives JMG an opportunity to engage more youth and prepare them for employment so they can earn a sustainable wage and start a career in an industry of their choice, helping to connect and inspire them to achieve a future beyond imagination.
